A Very Bolo November

November might be a month of reflection, but here at (in? among?) the Bolo Tie Collective, there’s also plenty to look forward to this month.

This Wednesday (Nov. 8) is, at long long last, the book launch for Volume II of our anthology. The event will be taking place at the MacEwan bookstore from 5 to 7 pm. Get your (free) tickets on Eventbrite and come out to support this student-made anthology and all the wonderful people who worked so hard on it. Bonus: there’ll be refreshments and a cash bar.

At the launch we will also announce the call for submissions for Volume III. Specific details will follow on this site (as well as on our Facebook page) but essentially, we’ll be looking for more of the same quality short fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry that made the first two volumes so freakin’ awesome.

Also keep an eye out for our upcoming call for editors, which will happen soon (Nov. 10). Because writers alone do not an anthology make. Dedicated and passionate substantive, copy, and poetry editors will be needed to whip the pieces we accept into Nobel-worthy form. Editor hopefuls will need to fill out an editor application package and return it to us by Nov. 27.

We’ve been a little light on workshops of late, what with all the exciting goings-on. But we’ll start getting back into it after the book launch. So mark Nov. 23 on your calendars, folks, as that’ll be our next “proper” workshop. Same time and place as usual; if you follow us on social media, indicate that you’re going or interested, and we’ll send you the workshop story a few days before.

And that ain’t all, folks. Our Bake Sale will take place Nov. 22 – 23 in Building 6, over by the staircase (id est the usual Bake Sale location). To let you peek behind the curtain a bit, we’ve been discussing a smorgasbord of gingerbread people, cinnamon twists, shortbread cookies, coffee cake, scones, Rob’s lemon cookies, chocolate mint brownies, tarts and even soft pretzels by Amy (who claims to be, like, paladin-level at baking stuff). Come on out, support a worthy cause, and fatten yourself up for some kind of slaughter.

Finally, on Nov. 24 – 26 and again on Dec. 1 – 3 we’ll be putting in an appearance at the Royal Bison Fair, Winter 2017 edition. The popular biannual (not biennial!) art and craft fair will again have a Biblio-Bison booth where you can load up on the wares of Edmonton’s top literary book and magazine publishers. Check out the above links for a list of all the publishers and vendors in attendance.

Peace.
