Famous Opening Lines

February 4, 2022January 13, 2022 / thebolotiecollective / Leave a comment

Many of us book lovers have a favourite opening line from a novel. One that stood out and has and remained ingrained in our memories. Today we're sharing some of our favourite famous opening lines.  #1 Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov "Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the … Continue reading Famous Opening Lines

A work that lights up a reader's imagination and paints a picture for them just as you saw it while you sat at the computer (or typewriter?) The editing process Whether you submit your writing to get published with The Bolo Tie Collective, … Continue reading What to Expect When You’re Expecting…Edits

September 10, 2021September 9, 2021 / thebolotiecollective / Leave a comment

Welcome back to another year of writing prompts to get your creative juices flowing. Since this is the start of a new academic year, we thought we'd start things off by writing about new beginnings. Poetry: Write about starting fresh. Maybe it's about moving to a new city or starting a new chapter of your life … Continue reading Weekend Writing Prompts: NEW BEGINNINGS

YEG Lit: March Events

March 4, 2018March 6, 2018 / thebolotiecollective / Leave a comment

Somehow it's March already. With just over a month to go until the end of the school year, it's tempting to sit here and wonder where the time went. Eight months when you're a kid seem to take forever to pass; not so, when you're busy adulting. Then again, when we think back to September … Continue reading YEG Lit: March Events

Looking Ahead to March

February 25, 2018 / thebolotiecollective / Leave a comment

With a new month around the corner, it's time to highlight a few publishing deadlines that are fast approaching. As usual, the parameters are short fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry based in Canada (sometimes, but not necessarily, restricted to Canadian citizens and residents.) Dollar values are in loonies. Click on the links for full and … Continue reading Looking Ahead to March

YEG Lit: Upcoming Events

October 21, 2017October 23, 2017 / thebolotiecollective / Leave a comment

Here are some lit events that will be happening over the next few weeks in sunny Edmonton. Oct. 26:  7 … Continue reading YEG Lit: Upcoming Events

Due to unforeseen circumstances, The Bolo Tie has had to cancel the Valentine's day Read It and Weep event. In lieu, our next Bolo Live on February 28th will be an opportunity to "drag your ex". Feel free to bring any prepared material that you planned to read during the Valentine's day event. We would like to thank @towersmacewan and @macewaneats for hosting all of our shenanigans, and we apologize for the short notice in cancelling Read It and Weep. We hope to see you on the 28th for Bolo Live! #yegwrites #openmic #yegevents #yegvalentines
The call for submissions is closed but the call for editors is still open! Apply today!
If you like to edit or need some editing experience, submit an application with us to become an editor for the seventh annual anthology. Spread the word! Link to submission info in bio!
We've all been there. You're dating. It's going grand, picturesque, beautiful, but out of nowhere, BAM, they do it. The most unimaginable thing possible. They say that one thing that turns paradise into HELL. They do that one thing that turns a fun outing into all your friends staring at you like you're insane for dating this SCHLUB of a person. OR MAYBE it's actually a build-up. It takes months for them to show their true colours, and your rose-coloured glasses CRACK away permanently. OR MAYBE it's none of this. MAYBE they up and left. Left you with a bill, an empty bed, a BLEEDING heart. Bastards.
Tick tock... The deadline is only days away! If you haven't submitted anything yet, now is your chance!
